From the Battle of Passchendaele, many lessons were learned, lessons such as:

*weather is the most important and fundemental factor in a battle such as this

*weapons may work properly in good weather, but it is unlikely that they will be effective when the weather is not good

*fighter planes are key in defending and protecting observers

*smaller gains were more effective than attempting a breakthrough-also known as sweeping aggression

* it was not necessary for artillery to be used in full scale before allowing the infantry to attack
